It looks especially modern from the graphic perspective.

Black and white has never been out of style and Zenith knows that will never be the case. That's why the Swiss watchmaker reimagines its classic Defy watch to feature the timeless color scheme.

Although the Defy has been around for quite some time, I must admit that there is something about the graphic appeal of its latest models, the Defy Classic and the Defy 21, that accentuates the intricacy of both dials as well as the clean, architectural lines of both cases. In addition to feeling contemporary and outside of passing trends, the black-and-white colorway of the watch manages to create a watch that is a true investment.

There are two versions of the 21: the Classic has a 41mm case and the 21 is 44mm, for both the matte black ceramic finish on the case makes it easier to show off the facets of each watch. A white ceramic bezel visually breaks up the dynamic design with a crisp pop of contrast.

Despite the fact that the Classic is smaller than the larger model, it is powered by an in-house Automatic Movement, the Elite 670 SK, which features a silicon escape wheel and lever for easy operation. It has a 48-hour power reserve as well as rhodium-plated hour markers and SuperLumiNova® detailing for easy reading in low light conditions, with its 28,800 VpH (4Hz) frequency.

On the other hand, the Defy 21 features a more complex El Primero 9004 automatic chronograph movement that is accurate to 1/100th of a second and has a unique dynamic signature of a rotation every second that sets it apart from its competition. In order to keep up with you while on the go for extended periods of time, it has a frequency of 36,000 Hz and a battery life of about 50 hours. Compared to its smaller cousin, the skeletonized dial differs slightly by having counters floating above its movement in contrasting colors. Despite this, the case as well as the hands and hour markers, both of which are plated with rhodium, remain the same.

There is a black and white edition of the Defy Classic that sells for $8,200, and a black and white edition of the Defy El Primero 21 that sells for $13,600. You can visit the brand's website for more information.
