The Sunset Strip Aerie of Charlie's Angels' director McG floats above the City Lights

"Charlie's Angels" director Joseph McGinty Nichol, who is better known professionally as McG, has unsurprisingly put his longtime home above L.A.'s always-hopping Sunset Strip on the market for $9 million after purchasing the Hollywood historic Bella Vista estate last year.
In 2008, the film and television director acquired the 1933 Spanish compound for $5.75 million from Brad Korzen, who sold it in 2002 for $3.9 million, right about the time he and Kelly Wearstler got married. It appears that the home still incorporates "signature Kelly Wearstler design elements".
A modestly proportioned hacienda-style home surrounded by a flat, spacious courtyard with grassy gardens and a sparkling pool, situated behind a high brick wall and secured gates, offers unobstructed views of downtown and the Pacific Ocean. There are three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in approximately 3,200 square feet, including two ensuite bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms in the main house, plus a guest apartment with its own kitchen and private entrance.
In contrast to the more contemporary interior spaces, the exterior of the house is defined by antique brick walls and aged terracotta roof tiles. In the living room, a massive smooth concrete fireplace dominates the space, espresso-colored wood floors cover most of the main living areas, and stainless-steel cabinets are topped with thick slabs of concrete in the kitchen. French doors open up the house to the numerous brick and tile terraces that hover above the glittering city lights, framing cinematic views of the city.
The new home McG owns in Beverly Hills has a long and fascinating history of Tinseltown ownership. As a former home of director King Vidor, the village-like compound was later owned by stage and screen legend John Barrymore, Drew Barrymore's paternal grandfather, who used to keep hundreds of birds in an aviary which was later converted to a residence and rented to industry icons like Katharine Hepburn, Marlon Brando, and Candice Bergen at various times. A former beauty queen turned actress and director Tony Scott acquired the estate in the 1990s. During the past six years, Donna had the property on and off for sale, and the price steadily dipped from $42 million to $15.5 million before McG came along with his $14.7 million and finally bought it. Tony took his own life in 2012; Donna had the property for sale on and off for about six years.
Additionally, McG directed "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," "Terminator Salvation" and "The Babysitter," as well as the sequel "The Babysitter: Killer Queen," and has a long list of producing credits, such as "Supernatural," "Chuck," and "The O.C.," as well as the recently reprised and quickly canceled "Turner & Hooch.”
