The Newest Jewelry Watch From Harry Winston Is a Diamond-Covered Ode of Beauty

A slew of diamonds enhances the Premier Sunflower Automatic's decorative appeal, but also gives it a symbolic meaning: sunflowers are symbolic of gratitude, so it's a great holiday gift.
This watch's zing isn't just due to its diamonds and rubies, which total 4.66 carats and a quarter carat each. Mother-of-pearl forms the background, which is a common element of Premier watches, but here it is brightened with color and arranged in 3-D. A ring of 12 diamond sunflowers on the outer dial is surrounded by 12 mother-of-pearl cabochons on a beaded mother-of-pearl base. The result is striking.
This watch complements Harry Winston's current Sunflower jewelry collection, which was inspired by Winston's archival sketches from the 1950s.
Thus, the watch has been designed and manufactured as if it were a jewelry piece. Rather than being set into the metal, the diamond petals in the sunflower are prong-set, allowing light to penetrate through the side facets, and elevating them slightly above the dial. Due to the raised setting, more light returns through the top, enhancing the sparkle of the diamonds. The raised setting provides volume and complements the mother-of-pearl cabochons that are also raised.
There are 20 blooms in the inner dial, which are adorned with either eight rubies or eight sapphires, each worth 0.25 carats or 0.24 carats respectively. In addition to the 120 diamonds on the dial, 57 additional diamonds are set into the case and 17 on the buckle for a total of 194. There are 30 pieces in each ruby or sapphire, each paired with an alligator strap.
