Montblanc Drops Bronze Oxygen-Free 1858 Geosphere

Limited to 1,786 pieces.

With the new 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen, Montblanc introduces a bronze case and the brand’s new blue glacier pattern on its dial.

As part of its 1858 Geosphere Chronograph 0 Oxygen LE290 limited edition, Montblanc introduced the oxygen-free watch concept – rather than a vacuum, the watch was filled with an inert gas. This watch was dedicated to Reinhold Messner, the first person to ascend Everest without oxygen and climb all 14 of the world’s highest peaks.

Messner’s son, Simon, climbed Mont Blanc wearing the watch on his wrist in August, following in his father’s footsteps.

Customers can relive Messner’s ascent via virtual reality glasses at Montblanc boutiques in addition to the watch.

In addition to preventing fogging on the inside of the sapphire crystal under extreme temperature changes, the absence of oxygen prevents oxidation.

This 42mm bronze watch features a dial inspired by glacial ice, a new motif for Montblanc watches. It is made with the near-forgotten gratté boisé technique. The watch is limited to 1,786 pieces, commemorating the first ascent of the Mont Blanc by Jacques Balmat on August 8, 1786.

Montblanc is now selling the 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen LE 1786, priced at $6,800 USD.
