It gets a new, more refined look for $220,580.

An updated version of Greubel Forsey's original Balancier S timepiece has been unveiled.

At Dubai Watch Week this week, the Swiss watchmaker released the hand-wound Balancier S2. With a 46.5 mm titanium case, the piece is slightly bigger than its predecessor, which was 43 mm in diameter. Its thickness remains the same at 13.75 millimeters in both the Balancier S and Balancier S2, with polished flanks and a brushed titanium bezel. To provide more depth to the dial, the double-arched titanium bridge that holds the gear train is openworked for the first time.

In addition, Greubel Forsey branding has been placed in a circular pattern under the internal bezel between 12 and 2 o'clock, rather than on the barrel cover as on the original Balancier S. Previously, the hour and minute hands were decorated in red, but now they are covered in white luminescent material. Similarly, the seconds indicator hand, which used to be red, is now black on the subdial at 8 o'clock. As a result, the dial looks cleaner and less cluttered, which will appeal to some watch purists.

One thing that remains the same is the gold balance wheel system, which is tilted 30 degrees between 6 and 7 o'clock. There is still an indicator of 72 hours between 2 and 3 o'clock, but this time it is through an aperture with a red arrow inset instead of a hand indicating numbers at the top.

There are sharp edges in a matte-finish hand-grained finish on the dial, which make it easy for the indices to stand out. The big idea is increased legibility. A longer display of these hour markers has also been added, making them a more prominent feature on the dial than on the Balancier S. Overall, the Balancier S has been streamlined and refined.

Both of the watches are equipped with a folding clasp engraved with the GF logo, and come with a rubber strap upon request. You can purchase it from an authorized retailer for $220,580, limited to 88 pieces. For more details, visit Greubel Forsey's website.
