The secondary market is seeing prices of up to $1,000 for last year's release.

Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, and Pappy Van Winkle are some of the most expensive and difficult to find bourbons out there. Wild Turkey's Russell's Reserve, a 13-year-old bourbon expression, has made its mark on the world of extreme bourbon fans with its highly coveted 13-year-old expression.

During last year's release of Russell's Reserve 13-Year-Old Bourbon, people flocked to it since it was the brand's oldest age statement. A quick search online finds it available for between $600 and $1,000; if you were lucky enough to find one, you would likely have paid well above its $100 asking price. The Wild Turkey distillery, however, did not anticipate such fanaticism, and the bourbon sold out instantly and immediately went to secondary markets. In recent years, it has returned annually, which is a good sign.

It is barrel-proof and not chill-filtered, as indicated by the age statement. The tasting notes sound intriguing, with notes of dried dark fruit, charred marshmallows, burned brown sugar and a hint of campfire. If you can't get the 13-year-old expression when it drops this month, you'll certainly not be disappointed by the 10-year-old, which is readily available and usually under $50.
