The brand continues to pioneer futuristic watchmaking with its latest Quasar.

The new Girard-Perregaux Quasar Azure, encased in sapphire crystal, is the latest version of Girard-Perregaux's cutting-edge wristwatch, which combines the past and the future of high-end watchmaking.

It was introduced in February 2019 as a futuristic interpretation of Girard-Perregaux's Three Bridges movement, which was first introduced in 1867 and was first used in a timepiece. The watch was the product of a collision between history and modernity, with its skeletonized dial and titanium movement housing.

In a move that went far beyond what the Quasar had to offer, Girard-Perregaux debuted the Quasar Light earlier this year, a sapphire crystal-cased watch with three architecturally-inspired bridges (the "Neo Bridges") constructed of sapphire crystal as well.

A new timepiece from Quasar is continuing the brand's quest for transparency; it has a blue-hued case that is machined out of a single sapphire disc, making this timepiece a real feat of craftsmanship, requiring more than 200 hours of machining, coloring, milling and polishing.

The skeletonized manufacture movement, Calibre GP09400-1035, features a tourbillon in a lyre-shaped cage, which is a historical design dating back to the 19th century. With the exception of the blue model, which is made of Grade 5 titanium, the bridges of the blue model have been hand finished using traditional techniques, and the cage itself is powered by an automatic winding system featuring a micro-rotor made of white gold.

In a statement, CEO Patrick Pruniaux said, “This model is a testament to our mastery of haute horlogerie and is rooted in our design language; however, in this instance, it is presented through the lens of cutting-edge technology.” This watch embodies Girard-Perregaux’s unique blend of technical expertise, contemporary design, and rich heritage. It is an eponym for Girard-Perregaux, a company known for its technical mastery, contemporary design, and rich heritage.

Featuring blue-tinged dauphine-style hands for the hours and minutes, as well as blue stitching on the strap, the watch is available in a limited edition of eight pieces at a retail price of $274,000; each piece will be sold individually.
