Here's a look inside David Harbour and Lily Allen's 'Weird and Wonderful' Townhouse

David Harbor, the actor of "Stranger Things", and British singer and actress Lily Allen, the actress of "Angels in America," have purchased a "very lived-in" 19th-century Italianate brownstone in Brooklyn's leafy Carroll Gardens enclave, following their nuptials in Las Vegas in 2020. After enlisting the help of architects Ben Bischoff of MADE, and designer Billy Cotton, the couple embarked on an extensive renovation of their home; now that it's completed, the couple is finally letting folks take a peek inside the eclectic abode, in an Architectural Digest feature.
In a nod to the neighborhood's Italian-American heritage, Cotton used three distinct design themes – traditional English, modern Brooklyn townhouse, and layered Italian – to create a casual, family-friendly atmosphere while preserving its original details and character. How did it turn out? In this eclectic yet inviting interior, chintz balloon shades accompany crystal chandeliers, pink silk, tiger-patterned textiles and Mylar wallpaper. A whimsical flamingo portrait and swan-shaped fixtures add to the whimsical feel.
The first order of business? Creating a warm and functional kitchen, complete with Plain English cabinetry, an Ann Sacks-tiled backsplash, a pricey Officine Gullo range, custom dining table big enough for dropping off shopping bags and completing homework, and coffee station with a hot/cold water tap installed especially for Harbour. From there, a green-hued living/garden room is anchored by a boxy fireplace, Zuber wallpaper and a custom double-sided green sofa enveloped in tufted emerald velvet.
There is also a primary bathroom/sitting room with Pierre Frey carpet and shades, Zuber wallpaper, Ralph Lauren Home sconces, Henri Caillon armchairs, a pink soaking tub, a fireplace bookended by a gilt bronze vanity and parquet commode. While pocketing doors open to reveal a windowless "bed womb," with bookshelves on either side of the bed, another separate space holds the toilet and shower/tub combination. Additionally, both bedrooms feature walk-in closets, one with bespoke Florense shelving for her and the other with a black-clad desk for him.
An ebony sink and toilet are set against bold geometric wallpaper in the lower level powder room, which also features a stone fireplace, carpet and sofa in tiger print on the lower level, as well as a media room with a stone fireplace and carpet. Flowing out of the door of the house is a gated backyard that contains two structures, one of which is a Finnish sauna, while the other houses a cold plunge pool.
As Rich Report describes it, the townhome's style differs significantly from that of his New York City loft in Nolita. Being a suburban boy from Westchester, he is used to a more middle-of-the-road aesthetic. “But I love that my wife has her own vision and isn’t afraid of taking risks.” As for Allen, well it seems she has fully achieved her overall desire for something truly “weird and wonderful.”
