A big Los Angeles estate has catapulted onto the market with an asking price of $150 million, a stunning $90 million more than the property fetched just two years ago. One lucky billionaire buyer will receive a state-of-the-art mansion designed by SAOTA and extensively customized by the tech mogul owner in collaboration with L.A.-based architects Woods + Dangaran for that price. Compass’ Aaron Kirman has listed the pricey property.
George Ruan, cofounder of popular coupon-clipping browser extension Honey, owns the house in the Bel Air hills at 10721 Stradella Court. When the house was still under construction in March 2020, Ruan paid $60 million for it, the largest purchase of a tech company in Los Angeles history. Honey was sold to PayPal in 2020 in a $4 billion deal. The 43-year-old spent another undoubtedly large – but unspecified – amount of money to complete the unfinished estate and add an array of decidedly bespoke customizations to the place. Buyers may or may not believe the 150% price increase is worth it because of those customizations and two years of hard work.
Of course, the contemporary mansion is stunning and will impress guests for many years to come. On most days, the 1.1-acre lot provides 360-degree views of Los Angeles, including the occasionally-snowcapped mountains, DTLA skyline, Pacific Ocean, and Catalina Island. This blocky, concrete-clad house features nine bedrooms and 14 bathrooms in total.
There is an attached staff wing with bedrooms for live-in help, as well as a detached guest house with a bedroom and its own plunge pool on the gated estate. In addition to the main mansion’s infinity edged pool, a wellness-oriented lower level has Japanese dipping pools, a gym, and massages.
A striking kitchen is adorned with exotic marble and flaunts Gaggenau and Miele appliances, while the dining room has pivot wooden slat doors that seal the place off from other areas of the house. The property also features a movie theater, library, and a number of sitting rooms. However, Ruan also owns the tennis court estate directly next door. It appears likely that the coupon kingpin could be convinced to throw in that place for an additional price (he purchased it for million in summer 2020.)
The last time a Bel Air home transferred for a nine-figure sum was back in March, when Fashion Nova’s Richard Saghian forked out 6 million for The One, a monster mansion that has been under construction for more than a decade now. With two large homes and extensive grounds, Coinbase billionaire Brian Armstrong bought a Bel Air estate in December 2021 for $133 million.
