Eric Schmidt buys $22 million Malibu Colony retreat

In the past few years, Eric Schmidt’s real estate portfolio has been the talk of several towns — he’s spent hundreds of millions buying prime properties in places like Montecito, Beverly Hills and New York City. Though the former Google CEO never made much fuss about it, records now show he purchased oceanfront digs in Malibu Colony guard-gated community last summer for $22.6 million, adding a trophy beach house to his collection.

Schmidt owns over $180 million in luxury real estate in Los Angeles, including his new beach house. In the hills above Beverly Hills, the 67-year-old owns a $65 million parcel of undeveloped land last owned by deceased tech billionaire Paul Allen. In addition to the $61.5 million Holmby Hills estate that served as the longtime residence of Barron Hilton, he also owns a 1970s house next door.Eric Schmidt, Google's ex-CEO has bought a gorgeous $22 million Malibu beach house. - LuxurylaunchesPress & Media | Malibu Real Estate Agent | Sandro DazzanA real estate developer named Ralph Kiewit Jr. lived in the Malibu Colony for decades before Schmidt acquired it. A price drop in June 2021 from $29 million to $25 million ultimately led to Schmidt purchasing the property at a significant discount. The brick and wood-clad two-story building, nestled on a compact but nicely landscaped 0.3-acre lot with 55 feet of beach frontage, is separated from the street by a gated entry and three-car garage. The midcentury coastal house, built in 1969 and updated over the years, offers three bedrooms and five baths in almost 3,500 square feet of living space, all with panoramic ocean and coastline views.

Among the highlights: a fireside family room, with a wood-beam ceiling, built-in seating and an integrated wall unit, and opens completely to a spacious beachside terrace, perfect for entertaining and lounging. Back inside, there’s a formal dining room that can accommodate up to eight guests, and an all-white eat-in kitchen with newer appliances that leads out to a patio for al fresco dining.

A spiral staircase leads up to an oversized master retreat featuring an ocean-view balcony, dressing area and cedar-lined closet, plus a spa-like bath boasting a soaking tub and standalone shower. Two additional bedrooms, along with an office, are included in the property; and a “classic tea house” that extends out to a sandbar, as per the listing, is atop the garage, along with a guesthouse with a full kitchen and bath.
