An upscale Beverly Grove apartment is the new home of 'Query' director Sophie Kargman

Sophie Kargman, though primarily a writer and producer based in Los Angeles, has also appeared in several TV shows and independent films, including "The Mentalist," "New Girl," and "Criminal Minds," among others. Despite studying English, psychology, and theatre at Harvard - a combination she calls "pre-med for acting" - the East Coast native has only recently begun carving out a name for herself.
The short film "Query," which premiered at Tribeca's virtual film festival in 2020, garnered significant critical praise. Kargman is currently starring in the psychological thriller "The Believer," and she will make her feature film directorial debut by directing a full-length version of her award-winning short film "Susie Searches" this year.” She's leaving her longtime Beachwood Canyon apartment behind in favor of a stylish English Revival-style house befitting a Hollywood star.
In addition, Kargman is the daughter of Massachusetts-based businessman Robert Kargman, an extraordinarily wealthy titan in venture capital and real estate development. He oversees about 3,000 housing units spread across five states as CEO of Boston Land Company. A lavish brick mansion in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles was purchased by him and his wife Marjie for $12.5 million in 2018.
Built in 1926, Sophie's $3.9 million new Beverly Grove home has been beautifully reimagined by Los Angeles-based architect William Hefner. With nearly 3,000 square feet of single-story living space, the three-bedroom, 2.5-bath home offers three bedrooms and 2.5 baths.
A whitewashed structure, nestled in a prime corner lot but hidden behind a tall hedge perimeter, welcomes you with a small patio and gravel courtyard flanked by a tree-shaded seating area. Light-filled hallways and a roomy living room with hardwood floors, beamed ceilings, and a marble fireplace greet you inside an all-neutral and matte-finished interior.
A dark dining room framed by French doors is decidedly moody - but still chic - while a cozy dining nook is located in the great room. There is a marble-topped island in the gourmet kitchen, as well as SubZero and Wolf appliances.
Master retreat offers vaulted ceilings, fireplace, walk-in closets, dual vanities, soaking tubs and spa-like showers, and is tucked away in its own wing. A shared full bathroom connects two additional bedrooms suitable for guests on the other side of the house.
Featuring an al fresco dining area with a built-in barbecue and fireplace, the private grounds are surrounded with 25-foot hedges and secured with pedestrian gates. The sale included "ready-to-permit" plans for a pool and detached pool house despite the property not having a pool at this time. Additionally, there is a detached two-car garage on the property.
Bennett Hirsch and Nick Sandler of The Agency represented Kargman, whose listing was held by Andrew Rhoda of Compass.
