After Undergoing a Refurbishment, Bab Al Shams Desert Resort Reopens

115 luxurious rooms and suites have been updated with elegant details that evoke a sense of Moorish royalty.
Almost a year after shutting its doors, the Bab Al Shams Desert Resort has welcomed back guests following an extensive refurbishment that had been carried out over the past few weeks. Among the sand dunes of the desert that surrounds Dubai, the resort - which opened its doors in 2004 - was one of the first of its kind to be built, situated among the sand dunes.

Bab Al Shams enters a new era following its renovation. There are no changes made to the resort's original Arabic fort design, and in fact the entire interiors have been fitted out in earthy hues that give the impression of a desert oasis. The resort is part of the Rare Finds collection by Kerzner International.
In addition to the 115 elegant rooms and suites, each of them has been updated with subtle Moorish details. Think soft patterned rugs, rich pops of velvet, and beautiful arched windows to give each room a style all its own. In addition to the modern rooms, many of the rooms also have their own private courtyards dotted with swaying desert palm trees - or, if you prefer, you can opt for a spacious suite that gives you direct views of the glistening sand dunes.

There is no doubt that the spacious deluxe suite is the most exclusive of all accommodations as it boasts a private terrace, sprawling living room, and large marble bathroom with a soaking tub, as well as an enormous bedroom.
There has also been an update to Bab Al Shams' dining offerings, according to Rich Report. Under the stars, guests can enjoy mouth-watering Middle Eastern cuisine at Al Hadheerah while dancing and listening to music from the nightly entertainment team.
In addition to the resort's contemporary Ottoman and Greek-inspired eatery, Zala, there is also Ya Hala, a speakeasy-style lounge in the style of an old-time speakeasy with a comprehensive collection of cigars. If you're in the mood for a cocktail or two while soaking up sweeping views of the desert, then you might want to make your way to the brand-new Anwa Sunset Lounge for one or two.
In addition to the resort itself, there is a wide variety of activities that will keep guests entertained throughout their stay, including horseback riding, camelback trekking, falconry, off-road desert drives, hot air balloon rides, and even guided nature walks in the nearby Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.

For those of you who simply wish to relax, you can retire to a private cabana near the infinity pool or stop by The Desert Spa for a variety of treatments that range from soothing aromatherapy massages to high-performance facials. During your downtime, guests can relax in a private cabana by the pool or enjoy a relaxing treatment at The Desert Spa.
“The reimagined Bab Al Shams is a legacy project that we are proud and passionate to present,” according to the resort's general manager, Gilles Soheir. “The team and I are thrilled to bring forward the essence and stories of this sanctuary to bring an authentic Bedouin experience alight.”
