A Complete History of the Air Jordan 4

Air Jordan 4 debuted in 1989 in four original colorways designed by legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield. Featuring a triangular support wing and breathable overmolded mesh paneling, Jordan 4s combined striking aesthetics and performance-enhancing features. Due to the eye-catching design and standout moments both on and off the court, the shoe rocketed to instant popularity. In Spike Lee's seminal 1989 film Do the Right Thing, His Airness famously hit "The Shot" over Craig Ehlo wearing Jordan 4s. Retros, collabs and special editions of the Air Jordan 4 have been inspired by its perennial popularity.

The Air Jordan 4 White Cement was originally released in 1989 as one of the first colorways. Featuring in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing, the Jordan Brand's first global release reached the mainstream of entertainment and sports. As a result of its significance, the Air Jordan 4 White Cement has been retroed several times over the years. With white leather uppers and grey cement wings, lace locks, and midsoles, these Retro 4s are almost identical to the 1989 originals. In addition to the Jumpman branding on the tongue tags, the netting is the same as the originals. There's one distinguishing feature of this Jordan 4 Retro, however, and that's the Jumpman on the heel tab.

Nike Air Jordan 4 Union Los Angeles Taupe Haze

Jordan Brand released this distinctive 'Taupe Haze' Jordan 4 Retro to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Los Angeles-based streetwear boutique Union LA. As part of the brand's "Tent and Trail" capsule collection, the Retro 4s were inspired by outdoor gear from the 1980s and 1990s. Featuring neutral taupe suede and breathable mesh on the collar and toe box, this classic silhouette gets an earthy update. While semi-translucent TPU wings mimic Tinker Hatfield's original sketches, the midsole and outsole continue the outdoor theme. There is a yellow Union tab on the lateral quarter panel, a light green heel tab with blue Nike Air text and a blue woven Air Jordan tag on the tongue.
